Kerimun Jawa Island, Pearl of Java Sea

Karimunjawa is located in the Java Sea +83 kms North of Jepara, Central Java. These islands are designated as KARIMUNJAWA NATIONAL OCEAN PARK in 2001. It is an island-chains with other 27 islands linking in the territory. Only five of them are populated and mostly by local traditional fisherman. In a way, this could show how close the islands to the term of ‘virginal tropical paradise’. There are also 242 species of fish, and 133 kind of aquatic fauna.

The most visited islands - because of its natural beauty among others - are Menjangan Besar Island, Menjangan Kecil, Cemara Kecil, and Tanjung Gelam. Let's visit the islands one by one!
  • Menjangan Besar Island: there is a large captive sharks. You can swim into their breeding pond and take a picture with these sharks. No need to fear, because the sharks are here quite tame and friendly with humans.
  • Menjangan Kecil Island: it deserves a visit because the waters sorround the island are lots of colorful little fish. It has beaches and beautiful sea floor with clear water, it is suitable for snorkeling.
  • Cemara Kecil and Cemara Besar Islands: there are many pine (Id: “Cemara” tree) trees that may be the basis of the names of the island. Another unique spot is the mainland beaches with white sand that jutted into the sea.

Other interesting activities:
  • Fishing/Night fishing
  • A trip by glass bottom boat
  • Islands hopping
  • Diving, for some people who are not satisfied by snorkeling, diving is definitely an option. Rent a diving gear and get set to the various diving sites available in the islands. FYI, one of the most favorite is Indonoor shipwreck.
  • Jetskiing & banana boating
